The Glenlivet adds 40 Years Old to permanent range

The new addition to the distillery’s collection has been finished in sherry-seasoned casks

Speyside distillery The Glenlivet, which last year celebrated its 200th anniversary, has added a 40-year-old whisky to its permanent collection which it says is the oldest age statement ever to join the distillery’s core offering.

The new whisky has been matured for at least 40 years, before a finish in sherry-seasoned casks. The custom casks were seasoned with a blend of oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherries, designed to complement the aged whisky.

Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet cask master, commented: “The Glenlivet 40 Year Old represents more than four decades of dedication and craftsmanship from our team. It’s thanks to the efforts and foresight of my predecessors who laid down the foundation of this whisky 40 years ago that we’re able to showcase the trailblazing spirit of The Glenlivet with the introduction of such a special and highly aged permanent expression after such a monumental year.”

The Glenlivet said that the 40-year-old release has notes of plums, orange, cherries, spice, and red apples. Due to be released at cask strength annually, the 2025 edition is bottled at 46.9% ABV.

In 2024, The Glenlivet released its oldest single malt whisky to date, a 55-year-old single cask that was the first in the Eternal Collection, a series of whiskies due to increase in age each year.

The Glenlivet 40 Years Old is available via select retailers at RRP £4,600. For more information, visit www.theglenlivet.com.
